The cost of being healthy

Happy February 2020. Hope you are enjoying the Summer and Fringe in Adelaide.

The last newsletter we talked about considering new ways to improve your well-being. That is physically, mentally and emotionally.

I have another question for you to consider. How much does it cost to be healthy? Majority of people think it costs more money to eat wholesome, healthy food; however, in rest studies from Harvard University, it cost about $1.50 per day per person. It’s not much.

So how much does it cost to be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy?

Let’s have a look at some of the costs:

· Doctors consult from $40.00 to $70.00

· Physiotherapist consultation $40.00 to $65.00

· Counseling session $90 to $150 per hour

· Massage session $60.00 to $120.00 per hour

As you can see, the costs associated with treating illness are enormous. There is a startling study published in July 2019 in The Lancet that looked at data from 142 nations about time lost from work, insurance claims, health billing and other costs. The researchers determined that most of the illness was caused by people being sedentary and now suffering from heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer or colon cancer.

The most common condition amongst the people was that none of them was doing exercise for their mind or body.

The study concluded that inactivity costs the world economy almost $68 billion annually in medical expenses and lost productivity.

There is an alternative to treating illness. Be active. It can cost as little as $16.00 per session twice a week, and you will improve your well-being - physically, mentally and emotionally.

So my question to you is what are you going to do differently this year?
